First Project

Here's the first major thing I've done on the Axiom. It's much steadier than the Shark, but the pendant operation is much different from the Next Wave controller software.

Pretty good looking plaque. How noisy is it?

The spindle is very quiet. Easy to change rpm, but haven't found out how to change travel speed during job.

I wonder if one of those spindle contraptions is readily available for a Shark. My PM690 is still doing OK but it's loud. I have it hooked up through a speed controller [the router plugs into the speed controller] but the speed is always on high since I'm not smart enough to know any better.

Thanks! I think! $799 is probably above my hobby budget just to keep quiet though.

Well, I visited Richard this morning for a demonstration of his new machine. My primary reason for the visit was to hear how loud that new spindle motor is. Answer: Richard and I held a conversation standing next to the machine while it did the demo for us. Not silent but very quiet. Compared to the screaming of a standard router, it's very-very quiet. Most of the noise came from the bit cutting the material rather than motor noise.

That machine runs off of the jump file plugged into the controller; no computer involved after the tool path is put on the jump file. That's a big deal to me because a laptop [that's the computer I use] is a fragile computer and dust and handling in a shop is a real threat.

Comparing the Axiom to the Shark side by side, the Axiom is a much more sturdy machine. Richard's Shark is down level from my Shark; mine is more robust than his but still no comparison to the Axiom.

All in all, a very nice machine.
