Actually the thing that got my attention on this video is the use of scrapers on the end grain parts of the bowl. I've seen this on more and more of the videos lately. The rule in the past has been to keep your scraper off the end grain but now it seems OK if you skew the scraper to get what is in effect -- I guess -- a sheer scrape. Anyway you look at it, the finish on his bowl seems pretty good. The new tools with carbide scraper tips are supposed to do a good job but I'm a born skeptic and won't be spending my woodworking budget on those tools until I see some actual results (with process and results witnessed personally).
The inlayed wire trick fosters some creative thoughts though.
