What to do with a very small burl

Postby loyd » Tue Nov 21, 2017 2:45 pm

I found a couple of oil candles that have been in my cabinet for a couple of years and looked at those small burl cut offs from other projects and
A couple of hours of fun at the lathe and a bit of help from the Beal buffing system and here are some Christmas gifts. Better: The burls went to good use rather than the burn pile. :D

The nice thing about maple burls [and other very hard chunks of wood btw] is that you don't need to go through the stinky finishing routine. Just sand them down to 1500 grit and buff them good with the three step process using Tripoli, Diamond, and finish off with Carnuba wax. Instant gratification -- almost.
