What is it?

Postby loyd » Sat Nov 30, 2019 9:09 am

Jan at diamondmeadow@att.net would like help identifying this piece.

Would you know what this beautiful wooden object is? It is at least 60 years old. It does not stand up on the rounded end. Looks like a baby rattle, but is too big and heavy for a baby. Maybe a child's toy? And from what country could this have originated?
Sincerely,
Jan

This may be a hint of what we're looking at. Native American shakers are part of shaman ceremonies.

molinillo.jpg
Jan found the answer. I looked on Amazon.com and found the photo.

It's a molinillo.
A co-worker discovered for me that it is a molinillo.
A molinillo is a hand carved tool used to froth Mexican chocolate and other Mexican Beverages. The tool dates back to the Aztecs.
Now, I wonder where my family got it.
Thanks for your help!
Jan

The day is young Sid. Time for a few more lessons. I learned one today too. There still are thoughtful folks. When Jan found out what that thing was, she let us know. That's thoughtful but seldom happens. 8-) I thanked her for that.
