The November meeting will be at 7:00 pm on the 20th at the University of Tennessee Space institute, room H111.
The November program will be presented by our
own Kevin Deuermeyer. Kevin will be discussing his approach to Intarsia.
He will be explaining how he approaches a project and how he goes about
the detailed steps to completion.

Be sure to meet all of our new members and welcome them to the club.
Make plans to attend the annual TVW
Christmas party on December 7th. The Chairperson for this
event is Karen Kerce Browning. We are confident that Karen will plan an
exciting activity.
The party will be held at the Nazarene Church
in Decherd.
Don’t forget to bring your favorite dish for the “pot-luck” dinner. Plan to come, enjoy the delicious food and have a good time with your fellow Woodworkers. Everyone is encouraged to bring a gift, preferably something you have made, to share at the evening’s gift drawing.
There will be additional information given at
this month’s meeting.

The nominating committee presented a slate of officers for 2013 at
the October meeting. The officer election will be conducted at the
meeting this month and the new officers will take office in January. You
will have the opportunity to nominate from the floor at the November
meeting, but, you must have permission of the person you are nominating.

The carvers meeting for November was cancelled, due to the conflict with the Huntsville Craft Show.
Several of the carvers participated in the Huntsville show on November 2 and 3. The carvers normally meet on the first Saturday of each month and work on individual or group projects. Everyone is welcome to “join in”.
The flute circle meetings are cancelled for November and December, due to the holiday season. They will begin in January. The date and time for the January meeting will be published as soon as it is confirmed.

“Shop Tour” season is over. Clean up your shop this winter and get ready to be part of the tour next spring.
We appreciate Doyle coordinating the tours. Thanks to those who hosted tours this year. Everyone always picks up some ideas to apply in their own shop.

It is a great way
to swap ideas and learn new tricks of the trade. You will be able
to share your ideas and experiences with other members through the

A simple jig makes it safe and easy to rip thin strips
The following is a homemade alternate to the “thin strip”
fixture that was shown at the TVW meeting a couple of months ago.
Ripping thin strips with your table saw fence positioned
close to the blade is a no-no. At the end of the cut, the strip
trapped between the spinning blade and fence can become a dangerous
projectile.
To safely rip the strips, build the simple jig shown from
3⁄4″ scrap. (For the #8 screws used to attach the cleat, drill
countersunk 5⁄32″ shank holes with 3⁄32″ pilot holes.) Do not glue
the cleat to the guide. This will allow you to be able to replace
the cleat when needed. The cleat ensures that the strips clear the
blade at the end of each cut.
To use the jig, mark the desired strip thickness on the end of the work piece. Place the jig against your fence and the work piece tight against the jig guide and cleat. Then position the fence, aligning the inside of the blade teeth with the mark on the work piece. Now rip the strips, as shown in the photo, repositioning the work piece tightly against the jig for successive cuts. Note that you’ll cut through the cleat with the first cut, creating a zero-clearance backer. To rip strips with a greater thickness, replace the cleat to ensure proper support.
