NEXT TVW EVENTS
Coffee County Fair Demonstrations
The Fair demonstrations are scheduled for September 13 – 19 at Morton Village on the Coffee County Fair grounds. The Chairperson for this event is Doyle McConnell. Detailed information will be available as the date draws near.
Polly Crockett Festival
The Polly Crockett Festival is scheduled for September 19 – 20 in Cowan, TN. The carvers are the major club participants in this event. Additional information will be available at the next two meetings.

TVW NEWS AND NOTES
The “Turning Bee” was held on
June 20th at Tom Cowan’s shop, with about 25 eager
“wood turners” in attendance. The workshop was well planned and everything
was taken care of, thanks to Paul Fulks, workshop
The complete process of “getting a bowl blank” from the log to the details of the “rough turning” techniques were discussed and demonstrated. Everyone came away with at least one roughed bowl. This is one of the most popular workshops hosted by the club. A big thanks to all the “expert instructors” for their help, to Tom Cowan for hosting the event and to Paul Fulks for chairing the activity.

The Fall Seminar date has been set and the presenter has been secured. The date is Saturday October 24 and will be held at the shop of Matt Brothers. The presenter is Ronnie Young. Ronnie will be covering all phases of “table construction”. He will discuss the steps required to complete a table including, planning, lumber selection, grain consideration, lumber preparation, joinery, turnings, possible inlays and finishing.
You will get to see the actual parts fabricated as they are discussed.

The Carvers held their regular monthly meeting on July 11th. Eleven carvers met at Phil Bishops' shop and worked on various carving projects. Some of the projects were bark houses, deep relief, a cat in walnut, and spirit faces.

NEED A GREAT CURIO CABINET TO DISPLAY THOSE “SPECIAL” ITEMS?

The Club's Curio Cabinet, shown in the Exhibition, will be auctioned to the highest bidder. The cabinet is made from curly cherry donated by Tom Cowan and was constructed by Henry Davis and Loyd Ackerman.
The bidding process is open between May 19 and September 15. The final chance to bid will be at the September 15th meeting. The latest bid is posted on the TVW web site. If you wish to place a bid, please contact Loyd Ackerman.

SHARPEN YOUR SKILLS??
If you have trouble with your gouges or chisels cutting properly, this is your great opportunity. If you want to know more about sharpening techniques, especially turning gouges, contact Bob Reese. NEW LUMBER SUPPLY SOURCE
Looking for that “special” board for your next project?
A new lumber supply source has surfaced in McMinnville. The Burroughs-Ross-Colville Company is located at 301 Depot Street in McMinnville. They now stock the normal supply of lumber and you are welcome to “come in and browse” for that special piece of lumber needed for the next project. The phone number is 931-473-2111. A tour of the facility is being planed for the near future.

FRANKLIN WOODCRAFT CELEBRATION
Woodcraft of Nashville is celebrating its 6th Anniversary on Friday and Saturday, October 23rd and 24th from 9AM – 6 PM. The store location is 209 South Royal Oaks Blvd., Watson Glenn Plaza in Franklin, TN.

DIGITAL LIBRARY NEWS
Our digital library just keeps growing. Two new DVDs have been added to the Club Library and are now available. These were made at the recent Turning Bee. One is "Bowl Rough Turning" with Doyle McConnell and the other one is "Turning Bee comments by Paul Fults and Chain Saw Demo by Tom Cowan".
Don’t forget to take advantage of the vast amount of material that is available in the Club library. Also, if you have woodworking related VHS tapes or DVDs that you not longer want we hope you will consider donating them to the Club’s Digital Library. JUNE MEETING SHOW AND TELL:
Loyd Ackerman showed photos of a music stand built for LaDoris’ son. Loyd built the item so that it could be shipped as a kit and included a set of instructions for assembly.
Tom Cowan showed one of six dining room chairs he made for Mary. They are made of poplar and finished with milk paint and a lacquer overspray.
Gary Runyon displayed a spoke shave and a bow saw from a kit made out of redbud and hickory. He also talked about Lock-Tite 324, which is super-strong glue.
Vince Zaccardi had a walnut bowl with a maple bottom. He commented that his interest in turning started at the turning bee in 2008.
Alice Jensen (visitor) displayed a very old sassafras limb with knotholes and other natural contours.
