Yes
it’s July already and the corn is as high as an elephant’s eye...not for long .
.if we
don’t
get a little rain soon . . .that old corn will shrink right back in to the
ground just looking for a little water. The cool of early morning and late evening
is even more enjoyable ... just avoiding the mid-day heat can be a great victory
in another chase with Mother Nature. Now for a little wizdium . .To err is human
to blame it on
somebody else is even more human You can say one thing for ignorance: it
certainly causes a lot of interesting arguments Don’t worry about swallowing your pride. It has no
cholesterol...laugh at yourself before anyone else can.. .The future is that
time when you’ll wish you’d done what you aren’t doing now.... last an Italian proverb...
After the ship has sunk everyone knows how she might have been saved.
NEAR RECORD CROWD AT GIANT JUNE GATHERING
Come Summer, we often lose our crowd to the call of the garden, beach, or snooze time. But, everyone showed up to welcome the honorable Jack Townsend back to the fold. We were sure glad to see Jack back.
Mike Hamby from Habitat for Humanity stopped by to tell us
about his organization just in case any of us had time to help out. They hope
to build two houses this year, one in Tullahoma and one in Franklin County. The
houses are sold, basically for the cost of materials. Plus new homeowners put
in as much as 500 hours working on their house. Mike says they particularly
need help toward the end of the project, painting, finishing trim, kitchen
cabinets.
We also have some new members to add to our roll call, John
and Louise Green of Winchester.

A GREAT SHOW AND TELL!!!

Reese showed a fluting box that he made a beautiful fireplace mantle.
Winfield had another whimsy of his that he made working under that shade tree.
Whenever I visit Winfield, at work, he says when that tree goes so do I.
Murrell Chattin has two new designs for plate stands. Jim Van Cleave
showed some candlesticks that were inspired by Marta’s Christmas
program. Too Tall Henry Davis had a too long table and solved it
by telling how he fixed it with a tool that sat in his shop too long. And all
in all was a too much tale about how you can never have too many
tools.

McConnell showed a rifle he made with inlay and says that building a rifle is much more a
woodworking chore than a rifle building chore. Bill Chew had a
box for all his pinkie
rings and a box bottom from Pier I and he turned the bottom himself.
ANNUAL JULY PICNIC AND SHOW AT FALLS MILL JULY 17. SATURDAY
Although
it is last, let’s talk picnic first. The picnic will start a little after five after
the show is over. Bring a comfortable lawn chair and your favorite covered
dish. The club will provide tables, drinks, plates, utensils, and, new this year,
barbeque.
Remember
the picnic is a family affair, so bring your spouse and sprouts. You are
welcome to come anytime during the day, just identify yourself at the gate as a
member, and join us as early as you would like.
Now,
since we are the Artisans of the Month, us Artisans need to be there bright and
early. Tom Cowan is the coordinator of this affair and we need to be all ready
when the show opens at Nine AM. Tom says we’ll start setting up about 7:30. If
you are a demonstrator and need a special request, extension cord, etc.., call Tom
Cowan at 967-1389 and he will attempt to help you.
We
will have active demos on violin making, hand and chip carving, woodworking techniques,
turning, band planing, and other activities. Many members will also be selling
items they have made during the year. Remember, if you have something you have
made and want to sell, come and join us Saturday.
During the show, we will have a
special spot for members to show pieces they are interested in showing off. This
booth will be manned during the day to not only watch over prized items, but to
pass out information on the club to prospective members. Often at shows, area residents tell us they never knew we existed.
This is a great way to attract new members.
We encourage everyone to come join
the activities as early as possible during the day. You don’t have to wait till
lunch time to join the activities. We’re going to have some lunch ( lite menu not
available at press time) but it will be one of those deals where you throw your
dollar in a pot for a hot dog or something.
Remember to wear your name tags.
NEW PEWS FOR THE AMEN CORNER
Last month we had plenty of sitting room because the new chairs the club purchased are at the meeting room now. There will be a private showing of them at the picnic. Our special thanks to Phil Bishop for traveling to Samsonite to get the chairs.
TVWW in printed form. Upstanding members Judy and Henry Davis have written a brief history
and information sheet about our organization and Bob Reese has seen to it’s printing.
First editions will be available at the picnic. Our thanks to these members for
their fine effort.
