President Karen Browning called meeting to order 6:30pm.

Reports: Jim Jolliffe – Carvers meet 1st and 3rd Saturday 8:30-10:30. Power carving seminar July 27th.
Doyle McConnell – No shop tour scheduled but will work on for near future.
Paul Jalbert, Treasurer – Turning Bee cost $143.00. Still collecting dues.
Larry Wendland – Turning Bee successful and thanks to mentors and all others. Karen thanked Larry and Sherry for hosting the event.

Carl started the tips with – something will only stick as good as what it is stuck to. Prep important.
Larry Wendland offered tips on rust removal using lemon juice. Also Camellia Oil on cast iron as rust preventive. Fred Heltsley demonstrated using foam tubes on saw blades and wrapping sandpaper around as good holder for sanding. Darrell Albert showed 3 bow sanders he made to use sanding material such as bowls. Karen Browning offered tip she learned at turning bee to keep CA glue in refrigerator to last longer. Vince Zaccardi gave info on plexiglass source. K&A Display Solutions 800-277-9540. SHOW AND TELL:
Jim Jolliffe used pictures to show 5 porch swings he built using pressure treated pine. He explained construction.
Matt Brothers had pictures of new shop being built. Will have 2 stories with upper for storage.
Doug Dunlap brought a nice bowl made finished with lacquer. He also had a segmented bowl of cedar finished with lacquer. Doug had jig for segmented bowls and explained using clamps to hold together.
John Hartin displayed a unique bowl made from red oak burl finished with lacquer.
Judy Bennett showed a intarisa eagle she made using yellow hart, maple, walnut, and cherry. Finish deft lacquer.
Karen Browning brought a segmented bowl made from 2005 workshop. Maple and walnut with lacquer finish.
Bill Guffey showed a bowl made of spalted pecan and finished with lacquer. He also had peppermill made of cedar and finish with lacquer.



Richard Gulley said he will be running for Decherd Alderman and showed small card made on CNC of oak. He also had sign made from walnut from Motlow House.

PROGRAM: Loyd Ackerman – Turning for Segments
Loyd gave a overview of turning segmented items. Using pictures and video he explained the system to getting great looking segmented pieces. He started by explaingdifferences between rings and staves. Stave grain is up and down while segmented grain runs across. Segmented not as strong until glued to next segment. The process includes design, create cut list, collect and mill lumber, cut segments, make rings, assemble and turn. Showed detailing sheet and informed all website has spreadsheet to make things easier. He showed some pieces he made. Once segments cut dry fit, sanding, attach disks into stacks. Loyd gave advice: Don't let rules inhibit your creativity. He answered questions.
